Insecure Writers' Support Group -- stuck

i'm stuck. stuck for something encouraging to say and stuck in my writing. but i think i've found a solution, thanks to Jeffrey Beesler.   he directed me to a great writing blog by Jeff Goins. and Jeff put up a guest post called You Must Engage Your Creative Side.

so that's what i'm going to do. i love paper arts but i haven't played with paper and glue for years, not since i started writing. it's time to get back to it, not just to get my writing brain jump started again, but to take care of my heart. because we pour so much of ourselves onto paper, i think if we don't take care of ourselves, our writing suffers, not to mention our day to day lives.

Finger painting also brings out the creative kid in you. We did it with some moms and grandmas and they giggled through the whole time, playing!

I love that "we pour so much of ourselves onto paper" and your other creative outlet is manipulating paper in a different way. :)
Great post!

I did that one day last year, I think. I broke out all kinds of art supplies and made myself a book cover. It was such a fun way to spend an afternoon and I like to think it helped me with my writing the following day.

Sometimes when I've been stuck for a while when typing a story, I would switch to writing with a pen and notebook. I can't do it too often or long cause it hurts my hand but it does help to do a different method sometimes. I like the idea of drawing but I'm not good at drawing so when I go to do that I have to have source materials for ideas. I do like the idea of doing something creative like finger painting or something instead of lamenting about being stuck. But we all get stuck at some point.

Have fun!

Yes, I agree, sometimes it is best to redirect my attention to other activities when I feel blocked. Somehow it takes the pressure off and before long, the words begin to flow again.

So what do you plan to create?

Changing mediums is a great way to take a look at a project from another perspective. Even just writing in a sketchbook, with doodles in between the scenes, brings out the freedom to try something new that I might have been afraid to imagine before.
Relax and let the ideas come to you. They are like butterflies sometimes, you have to sit very still if you want them to come close enough for you to capture them.
