getting off the hamster wheel

twitter, facebook, google+, blogging, book promotion, followers... all great tools for connecting with readers and internet friends, but they can all get to be too much after a while. especially if you're a Highly Sensitive Person and/or introvert. or if you've got enough on your plate already. or if you're just tired of it all.

wherever you find yourself, if you're feeling overwhelmed, here's a great blog post over at Shrinking Violet Promotions: A Social Media Survival Guide by Jenn Reese.

number one on the list...

1. Respect that everyone’s Social Media Survival Guide is different.
We’re all different, want different things, have different lives and different tolerances for technology and being social. Don’t expect other people to share your goals and priorities.

It's not one size fits all. But a lot has to do with balance. I may be a blogging Ninja, but I don't do much on other sites.

That really is the golden rule whereas social networking is concerned, isn't it?

Thank you so much for sharing. I do find it hard to fit everything in sometimes.

I agree that is (or at least should be) the golden rule for social networks. I know its hard to fit it all in especially since sometimes I just want to curl up with a book and forget the world sometimes.

Which is why I'm taking a hiatus for awhile. It's just too much right now.
