when one life ends

yesterday i quoted my favorite line from Avatar: "One life ends, another begins." today i wanted to say why it's my favorite line. for those of you who haven't seen the movie, Jake says that line in the beginning, just after he explains that his brother, who trained for years for the avatar program on Pandora, was killed "for the paper in his wallet" and that he has to take his brother's place because their dna is identical.

what i infer from his tone in the narration, and as he says the quote, is that beyond grieving his brother's death, he's not expecting much. this is going to be just another job, and probably not a very interesting one, grunt work. what he doesn't realize is that this this is the beginning of a whole new type of life, the end of his life as a paraplegic marine and the start of an adventure he could never have imagined.

i used this quote on purpose, not just to say that my life in Mesa is going into the background and i'm moving to a new place, but to say, i know as this life here ends, i'm walking into an adventure that i can't even imagine.

Sometimes we see the big changes coming - and sometimes those little ones really get us.
